Die Lokomotiven konnten Züge mit einer Gesamtlast von 1.200 t, auf Steilrampen mit 600 t, befördern. Die wegen ihrer Zugkraft als „Jumbo" bezeichneten Dampfloks waren in fast ganz Deutschland sowie in vielen anderen europäischen Staaten mit großem Erfolg eingesetzt. Die Höchstgeschwindigkeit lag vorwärts bei 80 km/h, rückwärts konnte mit 50 km/h gefahren werden.
