Mit der Anschaffung von mehrsystemfähigen Lokomotiven unterstreicht DB Cargo die Bedeutung des Schienengüterverkehrs in Europa und gestaltet einige Vectrons im Europa-Design. 100 Loks der Baureihe 193 Vectron MS (BR 193) werden von Siemens in verschiedenen Länderpaketvarianten durch DB Cargo angeschafft. Die Lokomotiven verfügen über eine Leistung von 6,4 Megawatt und eine Höchstgeschwindigkeit von 160 km/h, sie sind mit den erforderlichen nationalen Zugsicherungssystemen sowie mit dem Europäischen Zugsicherungssystem ETCS ausgestattet.
