While the VW T1 was the most successful van in West Germany in the 1950s and 1960s, the Barkas B1000 was the most successful van in the German Democratic Republic from 1961. The Barkas B1000, which was announced as a „fast transporter“, was produced in the years 1961-1990 in the VEB Barkas factory in Karl-Marx-Stadt, today‘s Chemnitz.

As a service bus, it now appears in 1:43 scale at Ajckids as a vehicle of the „Simson-Schwalbe customer service“ with a Schwalbe KR51 and as a flatbed truck in Simson design and an S51 as a snappy load.
