Information about the model

Over 60 years ago, on August 4, 1964, the German Federal Railway put the first of a total of 511 Mak V90/290 and 291 series locomotives into service. The locomotives were developed for heavy shunting and transfer services. To simplify operation, many of the locomotives were equipped with radio remote control and automatic coupling, which was made visible from the outside by the new 294, 295 and 296 series. The locomotive family is still in reliable service today and it was only with the appearance of the new Voith Gravita that DB AG retired the first BR 291/295 locomotives from the maintenance fleet.
