Information about the model

From the end of the 1990s, DB AG purchased numerous new vehicles for use in regional transport, most of which were designed as railcars. Between 1999 and 2008, the Siemens / Adtranz / Bombardier / DWA consortium purchased 249 units of a four-part electric multiple unit, known as the BR 425. An identical two-part variant for less frequently used routes was created as the BR 426.

The car bodies are made from extruded aluminum profiles and the windows are glued flush. The car bodies are supported on Jacobs bogies, and the end bogies are each powered by two three-phase traction motors. The interior of the train is completely walkable and has a total of 206 seats and 228 standing places. There are 24 seats in the first class compartment and 30 seats are folding seats.

The 425 was and is used by DB Regio NRW; Baden-Württemberg; Southwest; Bavaria; Southeast; North; Schleswig-Holstein and Berlin, private railway companies did not purchase any of these railcars. Their tasks include service in S-Bahn networks, such as that of the Rhein-Neckar transport association in the Ludwigshafen - Mannheim - Heidelberg triangle, as well as operations as RE on long distances. These include, for example, Mannheim - Saarbrücken - Trier or Magdeburg - Stendal - Wittenberge - Salzwedel.
