After the series 130 (maximum speed 140 km/h) and 131 (100 km/h), the DR put the series 132 (120 km/h) with electric heating into service in 1974. This configuration was the optimal machine for the DR. The DR therefore purchased 709 locomotives from the factory in Voroshilovgrad. After a few initial problems, the operational service had a reliable and versatile machine at its disposal. The locomotives delivered in the first year were almost exclusively distributed to important railway depots with train haulage tasks in international passenger and freight traffic.
