In den Jahren 1928 und 1929 wurden die Rangierlokomotiven der BR 80 von den Firmen Hohenzollern, Union, Wolf und Jung an die DRG geliefert. In erster Linie waren sie für den Rangierdienst in großen Bahnhoefen wie Koeln und Leipzig bestimmt. Bis auf ein Exemplar überstanden alle Maschinen den II. Weltkrieg.
