The Locomotives of the BR 52 (=series 52 ) of the German Reichsbahn are the best known of the so-called war Locomotives. More than 7.000 units were built starting in 1942. Planned were a total of 15.000 Locomotives. After the war another 300 units were built from existing parts. Also after 1945 the Locomotives were indispensable in many parts of Europe during reconstruction.
