Steam locomotive class 98.8 (GtL 4/4) of the Deutsche Bundesbahn.
■ Used for passenger and light freight trains on branch lines ■ Die-cast metal chassis
The 98.8 series, the Bavarian GtL 4/4, was first put into service in 1911 by the Royal Bavarian State Railways. With a few changes, it was continued to be built until 1927. The locomotives proved to be very good in operation and, with an output of 450 hp, were the most powerful Bavarian local railway locomotives. The small, undemanding machines were in use on many Bavarian local railway lines by the German Federal Railways until 1953.
