From 1939 to 1943, 3, 164 locomotives were produced in twenty-one different locomotive factories. After 1945 there remained over 2, 000 locomotives at the German Deutsche Bundesbahn and had to undergo major conversions, also creating various variant models. The locomotives reached a maximum speed of 80 km/h, had a power output of approx. 1, 200 kW and an axle load of 15 t.
