The V 100 series was purchased in series from 1961/62 after testing of pre-series machines. It was used in mixed branch line operations on non-electrified routes and in light service on main lines. With an output of 1,100 hp (810 kW) it was approved for 110 km/h. In 1968 the machines were renumbered as series 211. After the classic red, numerous machines were given an ocean blue/beige paintwork from 1974/75.
