With the introduction of computer numbering at the Deutsche Reichsbahn, the locomotives formerly known as series 23.10 were given the new series designation 35.10. The locomotives were a development result from the two pre-series locomotives 23 001 and 23 002. The locomotives of the series 35.10 were very popular with the operating staff, especially because of their low coal consumption and smooth running.
