model details

  • Note on the minimum radius: The models of the BR 57.10 steam locomotive are technically suitable for operation from a minimum radius R 360 mm. For optimal driving characteristics, we recommend use from R 420 mm.

Information about the model

After the end of the war, a large number of G10s remained missing. In 1952, 485 locomotives were still in the preserved inventory. As in the Reichsbahn era, Essen and Wuppertal had the largest inventory. In addition to being used on routes with a lighter superstructure, the BR 57 was now often used as a shunting locomotive. For this purpose, several locomotives were equipped with shunting radio. They were used for shunting, particularly on the extensive facilities of the Baden marshalling yard in Basel (Haltingen depot) and at the Hagen depot. The Cochem depot used the Class 57 to push numerous trains on the Moselle route. In the early 1950s, such services also existed in Hausach on the Black Forest Railway. In many metropolitan areas, the G10 was used to drive local freight trains in the 1950s, while the BR 50 was still needed for higher-value tasks.
