Information about the model
Before the BR 01 series gained its reputation as "the" German express train locomotive, the companies Borsig (01 001-008) and AEG (01 009-010) delivered a total of ten pre-series locomotives to the Deutsche Reichsbahn Gesellschaft (DRG). The first was the 01 008, which still exists today and was handed over to the DRG on January 10, 1926. However, the locomotives were still ahead of their time at the time, as many routes and even railway depots were not yet prepared for an axle load of 20 t. As a result, the routes used were very limited in the first few years of operation. This meant that testing of the new locomotives took longer. The most noticeable difference to the later series locomotives was that the first ten 01s had a noticeably longer driver's cab. There were also differences in the structural design of the frame and many other details.
