Information about the model
With the new transport contract for the Cologne S-Bahn network, the contracting parties go.Rheinland, the VRR and DB Regio are relying on tried and tested products in a new design, and this has even been awarded! The ET 424 series vehicles that became available at the Hanover S-Bahn in 2022 will be used by the Cologne S-Bahn since April 2024 after extensive modernization. The vehicles have been given a new design and thus convinced the jury of the renowned "German Design Award 2024". Of the reliable vehicles, which are no more than 25 years old and are not yet at the end of their life cycle, 24 multiple units will gradually be modernized and put back into operation for DB Regio. The central element of the redesign is to adapt functionality and aesthetics to the needs of today's passengers. With these improvements, the ET 424 will not only remain an important part of regional transport, but also a symbol of innovation and progress in rail transport.
