The prototypes of the Prussian express coaches set the standards for the construction principles of that time. From 1909 onwards they were developed step by step away from Prussian standard bogies. The wooden chassis of the coaches rested on bogies of an American style, the so-called "Swan-Neck bogies". The prototypes were the first Prussian coaches to be fitted with this type of bogies. In contrast to the seating coaches and baggage coaches, the sleeping cars and restaurant wagons had 6-axled bogies. With the exception of the restaurant wagons, the coach bodies were made from wood, coated with metal skins.
