The passenger train tender locomotive known to the Austrian Federal Railways as the 77 series was purchased in several series from 1913 (SB/kkStB Rh 629) until 1927. The steam locomotive of the Pacific design 2'C1' h2t was approved for a maximum speed of 85 km/h. With full water tanks and coal bunkers, a range of up to 200 km could be achieved. Practically every train in Austria was equipped with locomotives of the 77 series at some point.
The later 77.14 was delivered to the BBÖ in 1922 as 629.29 with the serial number 4379 by the StEG machine factory. After an eventful fifty years, it was decommissioned in November 1972.
