Steam locomotive series 043 of the Deutsche Bundesbahn.
Drive on two axles of the tender and via cardan shaft on all five driving axles of the locomotive. ■ With hand-painted boiler rings ■ Used in heavy freight train service ■ Metal wheels with filigree spokes The steam locomotives, known as "Jumbo" because of their tractive power, were used with great success in almost all of Germany and in many other European countries. The maximum forward speed was 80 km/h, and they could travel at 50 km/h in reverse. Some of these already very powerful machines saw a further increase in power to 2,100 hp (1,546 kW) at the Deutsche Bundesbahn when they were converted to oil firing in 1955. The DB's oil-fired locomotives were designated series 043 from 1968.
