The beginning of the 20th century was the time when the railway had already grown out of its infancy and was entering its era as the first means of mass transport. At that time, the first locomotives of the 310 series were delivered by the Floridsdorf locomotive factory to the Imperial-Royal Austrian State Railways (kkStB). With its massive four-cylinder compound engine, the more than 2.10 meter high driving and coupling wheels, crowned by a mighty boiler, it is considered by many railway enthusiasts to be the most beautiful steam locomotive in Austria. The locomotive, developed by Ing. Dr. hc Karl Gölsdorf and the most influential for Austrian steam locomotive construction, quickly aroused interest among neighboring railway companies. In keeping with the tradition of testing newly developed machines at friendly state railways, it is quite conceivable that a comparison was also drawn with the "beautiful Württemberger". To crown this story, the machine was also dressed in the matching livery of the Royal Württemberg State Railways.
