During performance test runs at a speed of 50 km/h, a coal saving of 14% was proven compared to the locomotive with a regulated suction draught system. In 1966 and 1967, 75 locomotives were converted in the "Einheit" Leipzig depot. The use was limited to the three Reichsbahn directorates of Cottbus, Erfurt and Magdeburg. The operations took place from there, mostly in passenger transport with reconditioned carriages and other types of carriages.
