As with the electric shunting locomotives at the time, these new models were fitted with a traction drive utilising a blind shaft and coupling rods. By 1978, 111 locomotives had been delivered to the ÖBB, each featuring hydraulic power transmission. The locomotives produce 440 kW and reach a maximum speed of 65 km/h.
