Almost 200 of the class E 44 electric locomotives (from 1968 onwards, DB class 144) were put into service between 1932 and 1954. The power of the four-axle bogie locomotives was around 2,200 kW, with a maximum speed of 90 km/h. The locomotives proved a success both for passenger trains and freight trains. Some locomotives were equipped with a push-pull control and were thus used in suburban transport in urban centres. The E 44, of which the E 44.5, E 93 and E 94 series were advancements, can justifiably be called one of the most reliable and successful electric locomotives ever built, since it firmly established the viability of the bogie design and the axle-hung drive.

EDITION FREILASSING

Selected models from the former Freilassing railway depot are reproduced under the “Edition Freilassing” label. The first locomotives, at the time still running under steam, entered the locomotive shed with its 20 tracks in the year 1905. Around 20 years later, the electric locomotive workshops were constructed, and further buildings followed over the subsequent years. ROCO, too, has close connections with the Bavarian city of Freilassing, as the company’s first sales office was located here. Look forward to the models in this unique edition!
