Almost 200 locomotives of the E 44 series electric locomotive (from 1968 onwards on the DB series 144) were put into service between 1932 and 1954. The power of the four-axle bogie locomotives was around 2,200 kW, and the maximum speed was 90 km/h. The locomotives proved their worth in both passenger and freight trains.
